Gretchen Whitmer to Release Memoir: 'True Gretch: Lessons in Life, Leadership, and Making a Difference'

Gretchen Whitmer, who has been the governor of Michigan for the past five years, is releasing a book called “True Gretch: What I’ve Learned About Life, Leadership, and Everything in Between.” The book, published by Simon & Schuster, is set to come out this summer.

In her book, Whitmer shares her life story, including lessons from her grandmother and her experiences as a lawyer and governor.

She talks about facing challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, domestic terrorism, and attempts on her life, including a kidnapping and assassination plot in 2020.

Whitmer aims to inspire readers to make a difference, emphasizing compassion, empathy, and determination. She describes her motto as “get s— done” and shares her unconventional, personal, and humorous perspective on politics and leadership.

The book will also include Whitmer’s humor and anecdotes, and proceeds will be donated to the Capital Region Community Foundation during her remaining time as governor.

Whitmer’s announcement of the book follows the recent acquittal of three men charged with plotting to kidnap her. Despite her threats, she remains committed to her work and safety.

“True Gretch: What I’ve Learned About Life, Leadership, and Everything in Between” will be available on July 9.
